The content in the Playbook is so rich and in-depth that Hayley and Annelize developed online continuing education modules to go even further—offering teachers detailed resources on postures, planning strategies, expert insights, and access to a supportive community.

Set to be published later this year, The Yoga Sequencing Playbook will be available as a stand-alone, must-have for every yoga teacher’s essential resource and reading collection.

Why The Yoga Sequencing Playbook Was Created

Hayley and Annelize created The Yoga Sequencing Playbook to bring structured planning back into yoga teaching - elevating both the practice and the profession.

The concept of a Playbook resonated with Hayley when she began working in football in 2001. She understood the value of a well-thought-out sequence and lesson plan - her own version of a Playbook.

Early in her teaching career, lesson planning and sequence design were fundamental, providing clarity, structure, and intentionality - much like a Playbook does for a sports team. Without it, success becomes a matter of chance rather than the result of strategy and preparation.

The same is true for yoga teachers.

However, as yoga education evolved, structured planning took a backseat to spontaneity - often at the cost of consistency, safety, and progression.

Recognizing the potential risks of a shift in sequencing, Hayley and Annelize, drawing on seven years of YSS research, created The Yoga Sequencing Playbook to help teachers:

We introduce the first essential building block to creating safe and successful sequences: your intention. Having a clear intended objective for any yoga class is where science-based sequencing starts. Whatever stage you are at in your yoga teaching journey, we help you start from where you are.
2. The Nervous System
We explore the second essential building block: engaging the nervous system. The arrival phase of your class is where the safety of your students begins with the physiological and functional preparation. We introduce practical techniques to help embody the theory.
3. Breath Integration
We build on the previous module and explore the third essential component to safe and successful sequencing: breath integration. Integrating breath establishes the foundation from which stable fluid movement can occur. We introduce practical techniques to help embody the theory.
4. Mobilizing Anatomy
We build on the previous module and explore the fourth essential component to safe and successful sequencing: mobilizing anatomy. We share the formula to mobilizing anatomy to help avoid overload and injury. We introduce practical techniques to help embody the theory.
5. Core Stability Activation
We build on the previous module and explore the fifth essential component to establishing the right postural conditions for the body to be safe and stable: activating core stability. We reveal our evidence-based formula for creating safe, fluid and efficient movement in your sequences.
6. Recovery + Bringing It All Together
We explore the closing, recovery phase of your class, with tips on how to send your students off the mat and into the world. We bring all the elements of the Yoga Sequencing Playbooks together. We introduce practical techniques to help embody the theory.
